About Tipping in Ukraine
Tipping was well-established in Ukraine before 2022, with 10% at restaurants being the standard in Kyiv, Lviv, and Odesa. Travel to Ukraine requires checking current government advisories and should only be undertaken with full awareness of the security situation. In western Ukraine, which has remained more accessible, tipping norms from the pre-war period largely apply.
Where travel is possible and appropriate, tip at sit-down restaurants (10%), with taxi drivers (rounding up), hotel staff, and tour guides. Lviv's historic Old Town and western Ukraine's Carpathian tourism industry continue to operate, and hospitality workers there deserve meaningful support from visitors.
Ukrainian hryvnia is the practical currency; USD and EUR are also accepted in many tourist-facing venues. At restaurants, leave cash on the table or pay a round total when settling the bill. For guides in Lviv's UNESCO-listed historic centre, UAH 200–500 per person or the equivalent in USD is appropriate.
